The Book
Parkinson’s Exercise Programs

Most books about Parkinson’s disease are filled with words like “degenerative,” “progressive,” “incurable,” and “debilitating.” A person with PD is rarely ever told to “Fight Back!”

Parkinson’s Exercise Programs  uniquely emphasizes the reprogramming of the brain by using symptom-specific exercises. It builds exercise into the day, and even makes exercises out of difficulties. This book introduces a program whereby a person with Parkinson’s can improve their posture, balance, strength, and flexibility, which all lead to changes in their ability to function safely, while contributing to their emotional wellness.

Parkinson’s Exercise Programs takes the hopelessness out of Parkinson’s disease. Instead of changing one’s life to suit the new difficulties, they can take action to overcome the symptoms. Parkinson’s Exercise Program’s unique message of fighting back teaches, “You need to do the exact thing that you are having a difficult time doing — do it repetitively, and better than before.” If your feet are shuffling, practice marching. If you are having a tough time getting out of a chair, sit and stand 10 times in a row, 3 times a day.

I’m currently writing Parkinson’s Exercise Programs It’s the definitive symptom-specific illustrated guide to hundreds of exercises for people with Parkinson’s at any stage of the illness. This book offers readers a safe, thorough and effective program for Parkinson’s patients at all levels, using combinations of fitness training, core work (torso stability), yoga, weights, deep stretching and balance work. It emphasizes my philosophy of fighting back and reprogramming the brain with the most efficient targeted exercises throughout the day.

Even after working with hundreds of patients, I have never seen two people with the same form of PD. That’s why Parkinson’s Exercise Programs is organized by symptoms so each patient will easily find exercise-remedies for their ‘version’ of the disease. Photographs of actual Parkinson’s patients will illustrate the seated, standing and lying-down Parkinson’s-specific exercises. Included are chapters on stamina, posture, balance, walking, muscle stiffness, household safety, stress, breathing, speech issues and more.
