Having been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, I was following the regimen given to me by my neurologist, who is very good. Nevertheless, I was noticing that I was gradually getting more stooped over, losing strength and energy. My feet tended to shuffle and I was a little shaky. It was difficult to cover myself with the bedclothes and even to put on a t-shirt. I realized that I was doing less and less, and not really getting the exercise I was supposed to. Fortunately, my neurologist suggested I give a call to Tracy Frank, who specializes in movement therapy for people with Parkinson's.
My first visit with Tracy was encouraging. She showed me that I could, with effort, sit and stand tall if I thought about it, and explained that strengthening my upper back muscles would help. She saw that I simply needed to get very strong, fit and flexible. Since then, she's helped me shop for new athletic shoes and a recumbent stationary bicycle. She adjusted my chairs so I sit more upright. She even took professional photographs of all my exercises and gave me a printed book of my program to follow on days I don't see her.
